CTK Parish Groups and Ministries
Evangelisation/Adult Education Committee
This is a Ministry of serving at Mass, on a voluntary basis. Students who have
made their First Communion may volunteer – those attending Christ the King
School, P.P.R.E. or other schools. The Co-Ordinator arranges the roster, trains
new servers and may provide some social activities to help children integrate.

The Baptism preparation team gives an evening to parents who have a new-born
baby, to help prepare them for the Sacrament and discuss the responsibilities of
being a Christian parent. The programme is arranged according to need and
Baptism booking forms are available in the foyer.

At present one of the cantors helps the team to select the hymns for Sunday
Masses, preparing a two monthly roster. The Coordinator also liaises with

CATHOLIC ENQUIRY CENTRE
The Catholic Enquiry Centre (CEC) promotes the beliefs and practices of the
Catholic Faith. The CEC is an agency of the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand,
and is supported spiritually and financially by Catholics throughout the country.
The CEC invites people to enquire about the Catholic Faith – via TV, internet
and magazine advertising – and we provide answers through literature, such as:

• Free booklets on Catholic marriage preparation

An International Organisation whose motto is: ‘FAITH AND SERVICE’ meets

The Co-Ordinator has a team of Adults to take two groups of children 3-7 years

CHURCH CLEANING GROUP
The group consists of men and women who serve in the cleaning of the Church,
Sacristy and Sanctuary. The volunteers serve on two consecutive weeks every
six months. They are always looking for new helpers.

DIVINE MERCY HOLY HOUR
An hour of our 24 hour Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament takes place on the
3rd Friday of each month, 3.00pm – 4.00pm, to pray for the Divine Mercy
intentions, praying for the dying and souls in purgatory.
The Monthly Divine Mercy Vigil Evening takes place at Christ the King, the 1st
Friday of the month at 7.00pm, with an hour of Adoration, Prayer and Reflection.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
The Parish Priest discerns people for this special ministry. Formation and
Training is then undertaken. The Coordinator draws up a six monthly roster for seven Ministers at each Mass.

This group is for all ages, but especially for older parishioners and those
at home, Catholic and non-Catholic. The group meets 12 noon - 2.45pm
on the last Thursday of the month and begins with a shared lunch, followed

GUITAR MUSIC GROUP
An Instrumental music group which provides alternative music for Mass one
Sunday each month. Musicians meet in the home of one of the participants each
month for a practice. Instrumentalists welcome to join.

This is in two parts, depending on the time allowed before the wedding. Part
one, FOCCUS, could be 2 – 3 sessions, and part two, Marriage Preparation,

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
This consists of the Parish Team, and elected members. Its two primary goals
are to foster the growth of the Catholic community which involves handing on the
Faith and sharing the Good News. Secondly, to encourage deep involvement in
the liturgy and the Sacramental life of the Parish. Meetings are held the first
Wednesday of the month in the Parish Centre.

PASSIONIST FAMILY GROUP
Groups of approx. 13 families meet once monthly for a function arranged with the leaders of each group. The purpose is to build a sense of community in the Parish and provide mutual support and caring. The group welcomes all ages, married, singles, divorced, widows etc. Come along and join them.

PARISH PRIMARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (C.C.D.)
A programme of Education in the Faith, for children not attending Catholic
Schools. Classes are for primary and intermediate children from St. Joseph’s
Papanui and Christ the King parishes. They are held on Tuesday nights during term time from 6:30pm – 7:30pm at St. Gregory’s Church.

A course of instruction in the Catholic Faith for those wishing to be received into the Church, or wishing to know more about the Catholic faith. It is held each year and is flexible in structure, but normally commences at the beginning of September and concludes at Pentecost of the following year.

YOUTH & YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
The Christ the King ministry with young people is coordinated by the Parish
Youth Coordinator and a Core team of young adult volunteers under the
guidance of the Parish Priest and Parish Youth Council.
The ministry aims to offer a comprehensive engagement with young people
focusing on eight key components: Prayer, Justice and Service, Community Life,
Advocacy, Leadership Training, Pastoral Care, Evangelisation and Catechesis.
With this in mind we do the following:
• Run two Youth groups & Youth events for year 5 to 8 & year 9 to 13 students
during the school term, offering Faith, Fun, Friendship & service of others.
• Run a Young Adults programme aimed at providing social events, prayer,
formation & support for Tertiary Students and Young Adult Workers.
• Produce a regular update newsletter
• Maintain Youth Facebook groups & web pages on our parish website.
• Offer leadership training & support opportunities for Youth & Young Adults
• Coordinate a monthly Youth Mass
• Assist with sacramental programs
• Support advocacy for young people through the other parish bodies and
